How to Measure Students in High School for Gowns

High School Graduation Gown Measurements

We’ve provided some helpful graduation cap and gown measurement techniques in this helpful guide so that your high school students look their best on graduation day. Your cap and gown will fit like a glove if you follow this measuring procedure from head to toe when ordering custom clothing.

Establish A Height Chart

To begin with, you’ll need a reliable method of measuring your height, like a wall-mounted height chart. To ensure that the gown you order fits, it is crucial to know your height. Once your height chart is in place, measure your height the same way your parents did when you were a child: by standing up straight and pressing your back against the wall. You can ask a friend to assist you with a tape measure if you don’t have a height chart.

Utilizing An Accurate Scale, Weigh Yourself

The weight measurement is the next thing you must supply to ensure the gown is not too tight or too loose. Unless you’re ordering a specially tailored outfit, the majority of graduation rental services only require your height and weight. Fortunately, you don’t need assistance from anyone else to get these measurements; you can do it at home.

Determine Your Cap Size, If Needed

A lot of graduation caps have adjustable sizing. You will need to purchase some measuring tape, though, if the cap calls for a specific measurement. The area just above your ears is usually the widest part of your head, so wrap the tape around that. To assist you with this measurement, you might need to ask a friend or member of your family.

Take Measures of Your Waist, Chest, and Sleeve

Finally, you will need to take a few more precise measurements of your body if your graduation allows custom attire. Beginning with a slight hip bend, measure the distance between your wrist and nape of your neck. This is referred to as your “sleeve.” After the ceremony, put on the clothes you want to wear (i.e., underneath your gown). To ensure that the tailored gown fits your body properly, measure the widest part of your chest and the thinnest part of your waist.
